We began building the FARMHOUSE with our three children in 1987 as our family home. As they each moved on with their own families, space became abundant. We have enjoyed welcoming bed & breakfast guests to The FARMHOUSE & to Whidbey Island since 1999.

Gary grew up on the Gabelein family farm just next door as did 3 generations before him. He has recently retired as a ferry captain for The Washington State Ferry System. In his spare time Gary is a volunteer fireman & collects fire memorabilia including a 7 ton 1951 firetruck.

Janie came to Whidbey Island for her first teaching job & stayed to marry this local farmer. She has since retired from teaching in favor of innkeeping. Gardening, crafting, decorating & baking are among her favorite activities.
